The City of Memphis is delighted to launch the first Connecting 901- Smart Memphis Fiber activation on Friday, October 2. The day will center on a connected community including the Orange Mound Community Center, Library, and Melrose High School Stadium. This event will be hosted the same day as Melrose High School’s Senior Night and final home football game.
Friday inaugural launch will mark the official activation of Connecting 901- Smart Memphis Fiber, a connected community corridor linking the Orange Mound Community Center, Library, and Melrose Stadium through faster internet, free public Wi-Fi, and greater access to technology. Orange Mound residents will be able to experience the benefits of free public high-speed Wi-Fi, access to technology and devices, workforce training, digital literacy programming, and stronger connections to public resources. The activation will include an unveiling of two new technology labs at the Orange Mound Community Center: one for seniors and one for youth.
The Orange Mound community is invited to join the “Senior 2 Senior” Tailgate with Community Center senior citizens and Melrose High School seniors. Together we will celebrate the opening of the new technology labs and Melrose’s Senior Night.
Orange Mound will serve as a working model for pairing infrastructure with programming and community partnerships—creating a framework the City of Memphis and mStreet can refine and replicate in future neighborhoods.
