Pearl Eva Walker is a proud native Memphian and a graduate of Fairley High School. With a heart full of passion for her community, she steps up every day to amplify the voices and needs of Memphians. As Co-host of the “901 Voices & Votes” podcast and founder of the Facebook group “MRYE – Memphis Raise Your Expectations,” Pearl is on the front lines, vocalizing our community’s concerns and working tirelessly to create solutions that overcome our city’s challenges.
As the former Founder and Executive Director of the “I Love Whitehaven Neighborhood and Business Association,” Pearl is deeply committed to revitalizing our neighborhoods by championing small businesses. She earned her bachelor’s degree in African American Studies from the University of Memphis, focusing on Race Relations and Interracial Communication. Beyond her academic achievements, Pearl is a trained Trauma Mitigation Facilitator with Inward Journey, Inc., where she supports individuals in recognizing and healing from trauma. Her dedication to community wellness is further reflected in her role as a charter member of the Memphis Black Healers Collaborative, bridging the wellness gap for Black and Brown communities in Memphis.
In her role as Councilwoman, Pearl Eva Walker serves as the Chair of the Libraries and Neighborhood Improvement Committee and the Vice Chair of the Memphis Light, Gas, and Water Committee. She also serves as the City Council liaison to the Aging Commission, ensuring that the needs of our senior citizens are met with dignity and respect.
Pearl’s journey in public service is rich with experience, including a six-year tenure on the state Cosmetology Board. She has honed her leadership skills through programs with Leadership Memphis, EMERGE Tennessee, and Leaders of Color (LOC). Pearl’s commitment to advocacy and community service is evident through her active participation in the National Women’s Political Caucus, Mid-South Kwanzaa (Board Member), Democratic Women of Shelby County, and the Shelby County Democratic Party Grassroots Committee. She also serves as a Civic Engagement Consultant for the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy – SACE. As the Environmental & Climate Justice Chair for the Memphis NAACP, Pearl brings a specialized focus on environmental and energy justice, ensuring our community seizes the opportunities provided by the Inflation Reduction Act and beyond.
Pearl is a dedicated public servant and a loving mother, advocate, and leader. She is an active member of Abyssinian Missionary Baptist Church, she serves on Team Informed. Pearl Eva Walker is not just a leader; she is a beacon of hope and a champion for all of Memphis, working tirelessly to create a brighter, more equitable future for her community.
