Pearl Eva Walker is a proud native Memphian with a passion for her community who steps up every day to amplify the voices and needs of Memphians. As the founder of the Facebook group “MRYE – Memphis Raise Your Expectations,” Pearl is on the front lines, providing a platform for Memphians to vocalize community concerns, while remaining deeply committed to transparency and delivering better solutions for the citizens of Memphis. As Founder of the “I Love Whitehaven Neighborhood and Business Association,” Pearl is deeply committed to revitalizing our neighborhoods by championing small businesses.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in African American Studies from the University of Memphis, with a concentration in Race Relations and Interracial Communication. She is an alumna of Fairley High School and currently serves on the alumni board as Membership Chair. Pearl is a trained Trauma Mitigation Facilitator with Inward Journey, Inc., where she supports individuals in recognizing and healing from trauma. As a certified yoga instructor, her dedication to community wellness is further reflected in her role as a charter member of the Memphis Black Healers Collaborative, bridging the wellness gap for Black and Brown communities in Memphis.
In her role as Councilwoman, Pearl Eva Walker serves as the Chair of the Memphis Light, Gas, and Water – MLGW Committee and Vice Chair of the Libraries and Neighborhood Improvement Committee. She also serves as the City Council liaison to the Memphis Light, Gas, and Water Board and Film and Television Commission.
Pearl’s journey in public service is rich with experience, including a six-year tenure on the state Cosmetology Board. She has honed her leadership skills through programs with Leadership Memphis, EMERGE Tennessee, and Leaders of Color (LOC). Pearl’s commitment to advocacy and community service is evident through her active participation in the National Women’s Political Caucus, Mid-South Kwanzaa (Board Member), Democratic Women of Shelby County, the Shelby County Democratic Party, and the Environmental & Climate Justice Chair for the Memphis NAACP.
She is the Memphis Civic Engagement Consultant for the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy – SACE, headquartered in Knoxville, TN. This work allows her to bring a specialized focus on environmental and energy justice while promoting responsible and equitable energy choices for clean, safe, and healthy communities.
Pearl is a dedicated changemaker, known for championing meaningful, well-crafted, and impactful resolutions. She is a loving mother, Elvis enthusiast, and active member of the Abyssinian Baptist Church. Pearl Eva Walker is not just a leader; she is a beacon of hope and a champion for all of Memphis, creating a brighter, more inclusive future for her community.
