Wylie Harris
Born: August 17. 1925
Rev. Dr. Wylie Harris has dedicated his life to serving God, his family, and his community. Answering the call to ministry in the 1970s, he began his pastoral journey in Arkansas. In 1977, he was called to lead Gray’s Creek Missionary Baptist Church, where he faithfully served as pastor for 35 years until his retirement. A devoted husband, Rev. Dr. Harris married Katie Wright. God blessed their union with 10 children, over 100 grand and great-grandchildren.
What is the most important lesson you have learned in life?
Be truthful. Being honest is freeing.
What is your favorite memory from your childhood?
Being able to go to school and learn just like everyone else.
How has the world changed the most during your lifetime?
The most significant change happened in 1968 because I didn’t have to go through the back door.
What advice would you give to someone just starting their life journey?
Get to know God and his love for humanity.
What are you most grateful for?
When God called me to preach the gospel.

I turned 100 on August 17, 2025, and am still excited about what God has done for me.
