Safety is our top priority as we work to resume solid waste collection following the recent severe winter weather. Crews must be able to safely navigate streets, alleys, and collection routes, and disposal facilities must be operating safely, before service can restart.

The City of Memphis Solid Waste Division will resume residential garbage and recycling collection on Wednesday, February 3, 2026.

While many roadways may appear clear, ice remains in medians, along curbs, in alleys, and other areas where collection crews must stop, exit vehicles, and service carts. These conditions, particularly in shaded and low-traffic areas, continue to create safety concerns for Solid Waste employees and residents.

Solid Waste Division leadership is working closely with the Public Works Division to monitor conditions citywide and determine when it is safe for crews to return to normal operations.

Conditions are improving, and the City expects to resume regular collection service on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, if conditions continue to improve.

While winter delays do not present the same sanitary concerns that can arise during warmer months, residents are encouraged to keep trash secured in their carts until collection resumes.

We appreciate the community’s patience and partnership as we work to restore service safely and efficiently.
