Memphis, Tenn. May 22, 2025. The City of Memphis will continue the temporary closure for a section of Riverside Drive from Georgia Avenue to Beale Street beginning this week through August 15, 2025. This closure is to allow the light construction work that will enhance the street’s accessibility and usability.
The project includes a “road diet” conversion that will reduce this section of Riverside Drive to two lanes, allowing for the addition of new public parking – including a mix of paid and free parking days – and a more pedestrian-friendly environment along the riverfront.
This work will increase available parking from 65 to 88 spots and ADA spaces from 4 to 8. This work is part of the City’s ongoing commitment to improving infrastructure and supporting safe, vibrant, and inclusive spaces in downtown Memphis.
Detours will be clearly marked, and pedestrian access to riverfront amenities will remain open throughout construction. All traffic control will be the responsibility of Montgomery Martin.
