This Friday March 21 at 3:30pm, Girls Inc. of Memphis will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new greenhouse at the Patricia C. Howard Campus (1179 Delwood Ave.) in Frayser. The expansion will allow for year-round growing and increased access to fresh produce for the community. Mayor Paul Young will join community leaders, partners, and residents to celebrate this milestone.

The Patricia C. Howard Campus has been a cornerstone of youth development in Memphis since its opening in 2023. Named in honor of Patricia C. Howard, who dedicated over 50 years to serving both locally and nationally, the campus serves as a hub for afterschool and camp programs, welcoming over 500 youth in its first year. The new greenhouse builds on this legacy, offering hands-on learning in agriculture, health, and environmental sustainability while increasing access to fresh produce in North Memphis.

The Youth Farm at the campus began in 2015 with just two shipping containers and a small team. It has since grown into a social enterprise where youth gain skills in farming, STEM education, and business operations. The greenhouse will enable the farm to operate year-round, expanding its capacity to serve over 1,500 youth annually and furthering its mission to provide fresh, locally grown food to the community. This project reflects a broader commitment to strengthening Frayser through education, health, and economic opportunity.
