Taking Action Against Illegal Dumping!

In 2022, the Blight and Illegal Dumping Taskforce was established with the mission to tackle blight and illegal dumping head-on in Memphis. Our team has been working to identify innovative initiatives that prevent and minimize blight while fostering community engagement and education.

Our Achievements:

We believe that a cleaner city begins with informed citizens. To achieve this, we’ve undertaken several initiatives:

Blight Busters PSAs: We’ve harnessed the power of visual media by creating impactful Public Service Announcements (PSAs) that have been broadcasted on television and across various online platforms. These animated PSAs highlight the importance of responsible waste disposal and the detrimental effects of blight on our city.

Clean Memphis Guide: We’ve revamped the Clean Memphis guide to offer comprehensive insights into waste management practices and responsible disposal methods. This guide is now available to neighborhood and community associations, ensuring that residents have the necessary knowledge to contribute to cleaner surroundings. You can also access the guide online and through the Public Works department.

Collins Yard Convenience Center Promotion: Our efforts extend to raising awareness about the Collins Yard Convenience Center, a hub for responsible waste disposal. Through collaborations with diverse media outlets, we’ve ensured that residents are well-informed about this resourceful center that facilitates proper disposal, making it easier for everyone to do their part.

Convenience Center Intake – January 2023 through August 2023:

Total Loads:
1900+ lbs.

Tires:
3680+ lbs.

Metal:
340+ lbs.

Misc. Debris:
1212+ lbs.

Debris Disposal

Do you have debris or waste items and you don’t know where to dispose of them? The Collins Yard Convenience Center is a centrally located drop off location for many debris items. Please consider using this facility to reduce clutter and debris in your neighborhood.

Social Media Engagement: The power of social media is harnessed to its fullest potential as we share visual evidence of the consequences of illegal dumping. When provided with images of illegal dumping, we post them on the official City of Memphis social media pages. These posts serve as a reminder that every action has an impact on our community’s aesthetics and well-being.
