Join us for a transformative two-day event focused on shaping the future of housing through preservation, development, and equity. This summit brings together national experts, advocates, and local leaders to tackle the most pressing issues in housing today, from fair financing to policy advocacy. The summit features a Mayors’ Roundtable, hosted by Memphis Mayor Paul A. Young with regional leaders addressing innovation and common issues in housing policy. 10:30am – 11:45am Session 1 – Pathways for Fair Housing Finance Since the pandemic and increase in housing demand across the country has exposed challenges with using federally backed mortgages in desirable housing markets. Recent research from the Consumer Federation of America highlights has exposed a particular experience as potential homebuyers of color attempt to use FHA loans in these times of increased housing supply. Come join a discussion on equitable housing finance and strategies to combat this inequitable home purchasing trend. Moderator: Brody Wamble, Community Affairs Officer, Simmons Bank Panelists:

Session 2 – Housing Investors & Barriers to Wealth Building The growth of large housing investors is impacting every city in America. But given investors tendency to purchase homes in working- or middle-class communities of color, cities like Memphis are getting hit by investors especially hard. This session will explore the way that trend is impacting Memphians ability to access and hold on to wealth-building homes. Moderator: Joyce Cox, Sr. Manager, City of Memphis HCD Panelists:

1:30pm – 2:45pm Session 3 –  Towards a National Home Repair Movement America’s housing stock is much like Memphis. The majority of it is older and needs much repair, yet our finance and policy environment encourages new builds over housing preservation and repair. The upshot of that is an unhealthy and unsafe housing stock, particularly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. This session will explore the nascent National Home Repair Movement being spearheaded by the national philanthropy, researchers, home repair professionals, advocates, and YOU. Come hear about and join the movement to put home repair back on the federal policy agenda. Moderator: Norman Jones III, Community Development Advisor Memphis Zone, Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis Panelists:

Session 4 – Dynamics of State-Level Housing Policy Advocacy State governments have a lot of control over housing policy and in recent years this control has encouraged non-profits and housing advocates to be more mindful of state-policy dynamics. Here from housing policy professionals from Georgia, putting their experience in conversation with local housing policy professionals that have experience successfully passing housing policy in the Tennessee to understand what works and how we can do more of it.
