MEMPHIS, Tenn., July 7, 2026 —Beginning Wednesday, July 8, Front Street between Union Avenue and Monroe Avenue will be closed through Dec. 1 as the first phase of the Front Street Improvement Project begins.

The project will improve pedestrian safety and accessibility by reducing Front Street from four lanes to three, installing curb bump-outs and ADA-accessible curb ramps, enhancing sidewalks, and adding landscaping.

Additional phased closures are anticipated as follows:
  • Riverside Drive/Monroe Avenue intersection: July 13-Sept. 18
  • Front Street/Monroe Avenue intersection: July 23-Sept. 25
  • Front Street/Union Avenue intersection: Sept. 26-Nov. 4

Motorists should expect delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes. The City appreciates the public’s patience as these improvements are completed.
