MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Feb 2, 2026 — The City of Memphis Solid Waste Division will resume residential garbage and recycling collection on Wednesday, February 4, 2026. Collection service had been suspended following the winter storm that impacted the area beginning January 24, 2026.
While many roadways may appear clear, ice remains in the public right-of-way, including along curbs, in alleys, and in other areas where collection crews must stop, exit vehicles, and service carts. These conditions, especially in shaded and low-traffic areas, continue to pose safety concerns for Solid Waste employees and residents.
Crews will begin servicing Wednesday routes for garbage and recycling. Solid Waste teams will work extended hours each day until service has been restored for all customers. This week, Thursday and Friday customers will receive service on their regular collection days. Crews will focus on restoring service for Monday and Tuesday customers through overtime operations, including Saturday.
The City’s third-party collection contractor, Team Waste, will operate on the same recovery schedule.
The City appreciates the public’s patience and understanding as crews work to safely restore service.
