MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Feb 4, 2026 After evaluating conditions in the public right-of-way on Wednesday, February 4, the City of Memphis Solid Waste Division has determined that residential garbage and recycling collection cannot safely resume at this time.

While some roadways have improved, ice remains along curbs, in medians, in alleys, and in other areas where collection crews must stop, exit vehicles, and service carts. These conditions, particularly in shaded and low-traffic areas, continue to pose safety concerns for Solid Waste employees and residents.

As a result, collection service will remain suspended on Wednesday, February 4, 2026. Given the length of the disruption, Solid Waste operations will move forward with the regular collection schedule once service resumes.

If crews are able to safely deploy on Thursday, service will resume with Thursday routes. If conditions do not allow for deployment, service will resume on the regular collection schedule when it is safe to do so.

The City’s third-party collection contractor, Team Waste, will also suspend service and operate on the same schedule as City Solid Waste crews.

Residents are asked to leave carts at the curb until service is completed.

The City of Memphis appreciates the public’s patience and understanding as crews continue to monitor conditions and work toward safely restoring service.
