MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Feb. 5, 2025 After evaluating conditions Thursday morning, the City of Memphis Solid Waste Division has determined that residential garbage and recycling collection cannot safely resume at this time.

While conditions continue to improve in some areas, ice remains in the public right-of-way, including along curbs, in alleys, and other locations where collection crews must stop, exit vehicles, and service carts. These conditions, particularly in shaded and low-traffic areas, continue to pose safety concerns for Solid Waste employees and residents.

As a result, collection service will remain suspended on Thursday, February 5, 2026. Solid Waste teams will continue to monitor conditions and will make another determination on whether crews can safely deploy Friday, if conditions allow.

When service resumes, Solid Waste operations will move forward with the regular collection schedule.

The City’s third-party collection contractor, Team Waste, remains suspended and will operate on the same schedule as City Solid Waste crews.

To provide residents with an additional disposal option during the service disruption, the following convenience centers will operate on their regular schedule, Fridays through Sundays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., including February 6–8:
  • 304 Collins Street
  • 3207 Farrisview Boulevard

Additional information about convenience center requirements and accepted materials is available on the City of Memphis website and social media channels.

Residents are asked to leave carts at the curb until service is completed.

The City of Memphis appreciates the public’s continued patience and understanding as crews monitor conditions and work toward safely restoring service.
