MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Jan. 22, 2026 —As Memphis prepares for a potentially severe winter weather event, the City of Memphis is activating its winter weather readiness plan and coordinating across departments to maintain essential services, protect public safety, and support residents during hazardous conditions.
City crews are pre-positioning equipment, monitoring forecasts, and adjusting operations as needed. Residents are encouraged to limit travel during severe conditions and follow official City of Memphis updates as weather impacts develop.
Road Treatment Operations
Memphis Public Works crews are preparing roadways in advance of winter weather by applying a brine solution to priority routes. Beginning Wednesday, January 21, and continuing through Thursday and Friday as conditions allow, the city plans to use approximately 25,000 gallons of brine to treat about 330 miles of roadway, covering one lane in each direction on designated routes.
These efforts follow the city’s established snow and ice mitigation plan. The City of Memphis is coordinating closely with the Tennessee Department of Transportation to ensure effective treatment of both local and state roads.
Residents can view priority routes and road treatment activity on the Snow and Ice Mitigation Map at

Warming Centers
To help residents stay safe during extreme cold, the City of Memphis is partnering with the Hospitality Hub to operate a warming center at First Baptist Church, 200 East Parkway North.
Transportation to the warming center can be arranged by calling 901-486-0939 during operating hours.
Additional community centers will be activated as needed based on weather conditions and community demand.
Libraries and Parks
Memphis Public Libraries and Memphis Parks intend to operate at full service; however, hours and locations may be adjusted based on weather and road conditions. Select facilities may serve as inclement weather activation sites.
Residents should check the City of Memphis website and social media channels for the most up to date information regarding service adjustments.
