Memphis, Tenn., November 5, 2025- Innovate Memphis, in partnership with the City of Memphis, Memphis Technology Foundation, Black Data Professionals Association, City Leadership, CodeCrew, Epicenter, MidSouth Makers, StartCo, and Tech901, is gearing up to host the 2025 City Hackathon, scheduled for November 7–9 at the University of Memphis FedEx Institute of Technology.

Event sponsors include Ting Internet, Malasri Engineering, Orion Financial, Duncan Williams Asset Management, Lokion, and Joma.

The City Hackathon invites tech enthusiasts, creative problem solvers, and civic-minded individuals—regardless of technical expertise—to participate in a 36-hour sprint to develop solutions to local civic challenges.

Participants will form teams to create innovative ideas across three key challenge areas identified by City of Memphis leaders seeking new ways to deliver services:

  1. Using Data Analytics to Tackle Blight — Develop data tools City staff can use to identify and prioritize properties in need of cleanup and rehabilitation resources.
  2. Using AI to Navigate Civic Resources — Create interactive tools that help residents quickly find the right resources and services, and keep directories such as 211 up to date.
  3. Strengthening Local Business Partnerships — Use technology to streamline onboarding processes for City vendors and connect potential partners to new opportunities.

At the end of the event, each team will present its proposed solution to a panel of judges. Cash prizes and awards will be presented to teams with the best ideas.

“This City Hackathon gives our community the chance to turn the traditional model of civic engagement on its head,” said Jessica Lotz, Executive Director of Innovate Memphis. “By welcoming creative and talented people beyond local government to think about how they would address these challenges, we expect to provide a fun, solutions-oriented way to help the City find new ways to tackle its toughest problems.”
