Grounds Maintenance
The Grounds Maintenance team is a specialized Property Maintenance department responsible for maintaining various City of Memphis-owned properties. Their services include routine grass cutting, tree trimming, weed control, asphalt repair, and repaving. The properties under their care range across the city and include MPD precincts, Libraries, City Hall, the Public Safety Building, the Police Training Center, Memphis Animal Services, 911 Call Center, OCU [Organized Crime Unit], Mounted Police Center, the Impound Lot, and other city-owned facilities. In addition to their primary responsibilities, the Grounds Maintenance team also provides other landscaping and maintenance services as requested, ensuring that all City of Memphis properties are kept in excellent condition.
Blight & Actions being taken to curb blight:
The Blight Unit is specially trained and equipped to respond swiftly to emergencies, such as severe storm cleanup, snow and ice removal during inclement weather, and the removal of hazardous debris. This team plays a critical role in maintaining both public safety and the aesthetic appeal of the community.
In addition to emergency response, the Blight team actively targets blighted areas within the city, working to remove unsightly and hazardous debris. By addressing these issues, the team helps to improve overall community health and enhances the curb appeal of neighborhoods, contributing to a safer and more attractive environment for residents.
