MEMPHIS, Tenn., Oct. 2, 2026 – The City of Memphis completed the 100th demolition under its 100-Demo campaign, reaching its goal of removing 100 vacant, severely deteriorated, and unsafe properties in 60 days.

The campaign began August 1 and was completed October 1, 2026. Many of the homes that were torn down had sat vacant for years and were eyesores in the community. The City hopes tearing down the vacant homes will clear the way for what will come next: new opportunities, reinvestment, and neighborhood growth.

The milestone marks another step in the City’s Community Enhancement Division’s ongoing effort to address blight.
“This campaign allowed us to address properties that have been a problem for too long,” said Melanie Neal, Director of the City of Memphis Community Enhancement Division. “100 demolitions in 60 days is a milestone, but we are not finished. We will continue working to address vacant and dangerous structures.”

The City’s approach to blight includes demolition, code enforcement, and legal action. The goal is to help property owners address problems before properties reach the point of demolition.

Although the 100-Demo campaign is complete, the Division of Community Enhancement will continue demolishing vacant and dangerous structures as it continues to clear the legal process.

The City encourages residents to report vacant, deteriorated, or potentially dangerous properties through 311.
