Firefighter Fosters program
Firefighter Fosters brings foster animals and firefighters together
Posted on 10/12/2018
Memphis Animal Services and the Memphis Fire Firefighter Fosters ProgramDepartment are collaborating on a new program called “Firefighter Fosters.” Foster animals are housed at different fire stations before they head to their next home.

Two-year-old Juice, a lab mix, is one of the first participants in the program. He is living at Fire Station 20 on Lauderdale Road. He’ll stay there for two or three weeks before heading to a shelter in Michigan as part of MAS’s transfer program.

The program helps Memphis Animal Services by freeing up space at the shelter and also gives the firefighters a companion at the station. Since many of the firefighters work 24 hour shifts Juice always has plenty of people to keep him company!

Since starting the program, Memphis Fire has already heard from stations across the country about implementing similar programs.
