Looking to save money on gas or take up a healthy hobby?

A new bike share program launches in Memphis on May 23. Explore Bike Share is made up of 60 stations and 600 bikes around the Bluff City.

Volunteers plan to kick of the debut by riding from Explore Bike Share’s Uptown warehouse to Court Square that morning. They’ll hold a celebration recognizing partners, funders and sponsors of the program. After the celebration they’ll ride the 600 bikes to their different stations across the city.

"We believe that this endeavor enhances the quality of our city on a level with other cities cultivating more vibrant downtown areas,” said Dr. Lewis Reich, a founding funder of Explore Bike Share. “The environmental impact is also a win for our city as participants park their cars and see the city up close from their bikes.”

The program plans to expand to 900 bikes by 2019.
