City announces Elvis Presley Boulevard expansion improvements
Posted on 04/11/2019
Three miles of improvements are coming to Elvis Presley Boulevard from Shelby Drive to Brooks Road. Aside from road improvements, the project includes sidewalks and crosswalks, as well as bicycle, pedestrian, and streetscape enhancements.

“We keep saying ‘Memphis has momentum’ and it truly does and Whitehaven has momentum,” Kevin Kern of the Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau said.

“I'm glad to finally start construction," Mayor Jim Strickland said. "The project will bring new life to Elvis Presley Boulevard."

Construction officially started on the “North Segment” (from Winchester Road to Commercial Parkway) on March 29, but project leaders say it will kick into high gear on April 15. Work is expected to last until September 2020. The initial phase of work will be on the east side of the road and will impact northbound traffic, which will be reduced to two lanes in each direction. Businesses along the corridor will remain open.
