I Lost My Pet

If you’ve lost your pet, the most important thing to do is be proactive and act quickly. Dogs especially can travel long distances very quickly.

SEARCHING FOR YOUR PET:

  1. Monitor our website daily or multiple times daily to see if your pet shows up here at MAS. You can either click SEARCH PETS AT MAS above to search for specific criteria, or you can browse all dogs here or all cats here.

  2. Come see us at 2350 Appling City Cove during our business hours (Sun/Mon 12-3pm, Tues/Thurs 1-7pm, Wed/Fri 12-5pm, Sat 12-4pm) and a staff member will assist you with looking for your pet.

  3. Post a photo, details about your pet, when/where your pet was last seen, and your name and phone number, on the Lost and Found Pets of the MidSouth Facebook page. If you don’t have a Facebook account, we suggest that you create one solely for this purpose (you can always delete it once you’ve found your pet).

  4. Put up signs (with a photo of your pet, his/her name, details about him/her, and your name and contact information) in the area near where your pet was lost. Lost pets can cover miles more quickly than you’d think, so be thorough. Adoptapet.com has a free Lost Pet sign template you can use to create your sign.

  5. Have you signed up for NextDoor? NextDoor is an app that is based on your geographical location, and is a great place to post about lost pets so that your neighbors can be on the lookout. Post a photo, details about your pet, when/where your pet was last seen, and your name and phone number, on NextDoor.

  6. Call vet clinics in your area to file a lost pet report and see if they may have your pet.

  7. Depending on where you live, you may want to contact other city’s municipal shelters, such as Bartlett, Germantown, and Collierville.

Time is of the essence, so act quickly! We are legally required to hold a stray pet three days before the pet officially becomes City of Memphis property, at which point the pet is available for adoption, rescue transfer, or euthanasia. Don’t wait too long to check MAS or your beloved pet might get adopted by someone else!

Please note: Memphis Animal Services is not a no-kill shelter. Unfortunately, if not reclaimed, your pet may be euthanized if we run out of space.
