City of Memphis Awards $3000 Bonus for Retirees

Memphis, Tenn. August 30, 2024. The City of Memphis is pleased to announce that all retirees will receive a one-time bonus of $3000, to be distributed on August 30, 2024. This bonus is given in recognition of the dedicated service provided by the retirees to the City and its citizens over the years prior to their retirement.

Mayor Paul Young expressed his commitment to ensuring that retirees receive additional compensation despite facing budget constraints in FY25. The approximately 5600 retirees who have served the City will benefit from this gesture, with the total cost to the Pension Fund estimated at $16.7 million.

“City of Memphis retirees have made invaluable contributions to our community, and it is right that they are recognized and supported,” said Mayor Paul Young. “This bonus is a demonstration of our appreciation for their service to our community.”

The Mayor also emphasized the City’s commitment to reviewing future budgets to explore opportunities for additional support to retirees.
