Biography of Willie Brooks, Jr.

Commissioner Willie F. Brooks, Jr. brings a wealth of experience in numerous areas. In a professional capacity he has worked in Human Resources at FedEx for 18 years. He is currently a Compensation Advisor and administers corporate compensation programs for over 13,000 employees in Domestic Ground Operations and Retail Marketing. In 2002, Willie received FedEx Five Star Award, which is the most prestigious award FedEx Express bestows amongst its employees. This award is the company's way of recognizing employee leadership, creativity, and superior performance.

Commissioner Brooks was elected in August 3, 2006 and officially sworn in on September 6 to the Memphis Charter Commission. Commissioner is currently the Vice Chairman of the Charter Commission.

Commission Brooks was elected in November 2003 and officially sworn in on December 1 to the Memphis City School Board of Commissioners for District 1 to serve the 21st largest public school system in the U.S. In July 2004, he received the honor of Broad Fellow from the Broad Institute for School Boards

Commissioner Brooks is an active member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. He has previously served as President of the Memphis Graduate Chapter, Beautillion Presentation Chairman, Debutante Presentation Chairman, Board of Directors; Chairman of Budget & Finance and. In 1997 and 2004, he received the Kappa Man of the Year award. He serves as National Chairman St. Jude Partnership Initiatives.

Commissioner Brooks was elected in March 2004 to serve as Senior Province Vice Polemarch and received the honor of Alumni Brother of the Year for South Central Province, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

Commissioner Brooks is a 1986 graduate of Leadership Memphis, Board Chairman Star Academy Charter School, former Board Chairman Abe Sharpe YMCA, Board Chairman of Spectra Mental Health Center, Vice President of Manassas High School Alumni Association and Vice President of the Mid-South Compensation Association.

Commissioner Brooks has served as past Chairman of the Men?s Ministry at Bountiful Blessings Church and is currently a trusted Deacon to Bishop G. E. Patterson, the Presiding Bishop of Church of God In Christ (COGIC).

With his wide range of expertise and influence, Commissioner Brooks offers corporate, religious, civic and fraternal leadership experience.

He is married to Dianne Carter and has two children, Kemmashela and Willie III.
