Councilman Boyd was elected to the Memphis City Council in November, 2007.
A lifelong resident of Memphis, Boyd attended the public schools at Cummings Elementary and South Side High. He also attended Memphis State University (College of Business), University of Tennessee (Real Estate), State Technical Institute (Computer Technology), and Tennessee State University (Accredited Rule 31 Mediator).
Mr. Boyd is the former West Tennessee Regional Coordinator of Worker Compensation, past General Manager, Naegele Outdoor Advertising Company, former Shelby County Assessor of Property, elected to three 4-year terms. He served as Director of Public Service, appointed by Mayor Wyeth Chandler, was the Construction Coordinator of the Commerce Square Office Building Project, served as the Administrative Assistant to the Commissioner of Public Service Hunter Lane, Jr. He was the first manager of Security Title Company when they first located in Memphis. He is now semi-retired.
Councilman Boyd has served his community on the following boards: Goodwill Industries (Treasurer); Arthritis Foundation (Chairman of Fundraising); The Memphis State University Highland Hundred (President); Big Brothers/Big Sisters (Chairman of Fundraising); Greater Memphis State Inc. (Second Vice President) and U of M Society Inc. (First Vice President) both academic support groups, Tennessee Jaycees (Treasurer) Memphis Jaycees (Vice President) South Side High Booster Club (President); Leadership Memphis (Chairman of Selection Committee); Kiwanis Club of Memphis (President) Kiwanis Division (Lt. Governor); Kiwanis District of West Tennessee, Mississippi, and Louisiana (District Governor); Miss Teen USA pageant held in Memphis on national television (Executive Committee); Liberty Bowl; Mid-South Fair; National Football Foundation; Cordova The Town Homeowner's Association (Vice President). Mr. Boyd has served in the following professional activities: Memphis Board of Realtors (Planning Committee); Memphis Building Owners and Managers Association (Vice President) Outdoor Advertising Association of Tennessee; Political Action Committee (Chairman); Legislative Committee of Tennessee Association of Assessing Officials (Chairman); Conference of County Officials Association of Tennessee (Chairman); Memphis City Council Government Consolidation Review Committee.
Mr. Boyd has also served as a voting member of the following Commissions and Boards of Trustees: Memphis and Shelby County Port Commission; Memphis and Shelby County Convention Center; Memphis Public Library Board of Trustees; Center City Commission, Shelby County Board of Equalization and he served as an ex-officio member of the Mid-South Coliseum Board of Commissioners and the Memphis River Front Harbor Commission.
